Gateway Foundation’s Mercedes Kent recently joined Newschannel 20 to discuss Medication-Assisted Recovery (MAR), an evidence-based approach to treating substance use disorders. She explained that MAR uses prescribed medications to help reduce cravings and ease the physical symptoms of withdrawal, supporting individuals as they begin their healing journey. Kent emphasized, however, that MAR is not a cure on its own—it is most effective when combined with therapy, counseling, and other treatment methods to build a foundation for long-term, sustained recovery.
